Eliminate Kitchen Clutter
What Shape Is Your Kitchen In?
Do you ever wish you had an "Eliminate Kitchen Clutter" button that you could push and magically transform your kitchen? Are you living in CHAOS (Can’t Have Anyone Over Syndrome)? Wouldn't you like to know what’s for dinner each day and have the ingredients on hand? An efficient, convenient kitchen must be pared to the bone. Resolve to dump delusions, sentiment and indecision along with the expired coupons and never-used cookbooks. Take a deep breath and follow these steps to eliminate kitchen clutter.
Step-By-Step: You Can Do This!
1. Clean off the countertops. Wash any dirty dishes, take out the trash and clear off all the countertops. Find another area for your knickknacks and other things that don’t absolutely need to live there. 2. Open up those cabinets and purge. Declutter a single shelf, drawer or cupboard at a time. Don’t get overwhelmed by trying to do the entire kitchen all at once. Start with the top shelves and work your way down. Have four boxes labeled as follows: - Keep in Kitchen;
- Keep Elsewhere;
- Donate/Sell;
- Storage (for seasonal or rarely used).
Also have big black trash bags ready for anything that's broken, disliked or is out-of-date.In order to truly eliminate kitchen clutter, you need to take out each and every item and if you haven't used it in the past year, toss it, donate it to a charity, or give it to someone.
3. Box and banish. Okay, the pep talk wasn’t enough. There are still several items in your kitchen that you don't quite use but can't really part with. So try this:Place those items into a large box, label it “Kitchen Declutter” and date it. Store it elsewhere for six months to a year (be sure to mark your retrieval date on your calendar). Have you ever opened the box and retrieved any of those items? No? Then take the entire box to a thrift store without opening it. Now you might be able to find the things you need.
